Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
There are eight truths revealed about God in this verse:
1. God exists – Hebrews 11:6 Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him.
2. God existed before there was a universe – Hebrews 1:10-12 And: In the beginning, Lord, You established the earth, and the heavens are the works of Your hands they will perish, but You remain. They will all wear out like clothing. You will roll them up like a cloak and they will be changed like a robe. But You are the same, and Your years will never end.
3. God is the main character in the Bible.
4. God is a being of action. He is the subject of the first verb in the Bible and performs a wider variety of activities than any other being in the Bible.
5. God is the creator. The Hebrew word for created is bārāʾ. In the active form of bārāʾ there is never a human subject, thus the verb indicates a work that is uniquely God’s.
6. God is mysterious. Though the Hebrew word for God is plural, the verb form of which "God" is the subject is singular. This may refer to the trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. There are three God heads, but one divine purpose.
7. God is the Creator of heaven and earth. Psalms 33:6-9 The heavens were made by the word of the Lord and all the stars, by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into a heap; He puts the depths into storehouses. Let the whole earth tremble before the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it came into being; He commanded, and it came into existence.
8. God is not dependent on the universe, but the universe is totally dependent on God. Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact copy of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
