Matthew 20:1-16- Please Read
Matthew 20:14 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”
Should you be jealous because I am kind to others?’ NLT
Or are you envious because I am generous?’ NIV
Are you going to get stingy because I am generous?’ Message
Am I not permitted to do what I choose with what is mine? [Or do you begrudge my being generous?] Is your eye evil because I am good? (Amp)
15 Can’t I do what I want with my own money? Or do you resent my generosity towards others?’ - God’s Word Translation
Matthew 6: 22 The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you [your conscience] is darkened, how dense is that darkness! (Amp.)
We Have An Evil Eye When
Our generosity doesn’t match His.
Our mercy is not extended when He wants to extend mercy
We view God’s goodness as something bad.
Our love doesn’t match His love.
Our giving doesn’t match His giving.
Our compassion falls short of what he wants to offer.
We don’t see things from His point of view.
Are we mean spirited when He wants kindness extended
How Can I Avoid The Evil Eye?
1.Submit to the sovereignty of God. God’s sovereignty is the attribute by which He rules His entire creation, and to be sovereign God must be all-knowing, all powerful, and absolutely free. If one point of knowledge, however small, was unknown to God, He rule would break down at that point. If one atom or molecule of power was outside of His power, it would end His reign and undo His Kingdom. His sovereignty requires that He be free to do whatever He wills to do anywhere at any time to carry out His eternal purpose in every single detail without interference. Were He less than free, He would not be sovereign. We insist that God does . . .as He pleases, only as He pleases, always as He pleases!
EXAMPLE : Mark 10: 13 The people brought children to Jesus, hoping he might touch them. 14 The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom. 15 Mark this: Unless you accept God’s kingdom in the simplicity of a child, you’ll never get in.”
"But our God is in the heavens--He has done whatever He has pleased!" Psalm 115:3
Here is my humble view of God's sovereignty and man's free will working together:
God sovereignly decreed that man should be free to exercise moral choice, and man from the beginning has fulfilled that decree by making His choice between good and evil. When he chooses to do evil, he does not contradict the sovereign will of God but fulfills it, for the eternal decree decided not which choice a man should make but that he should be free to make it. If in His absolute freedom God has willed to give man limited freedom, who are we to speak against it. Man’s will is free because God is sovereign.
Illustration: An ocean liner leaves NY headed for England. It’s destination has been determined by proper authorities. Nothing can change that. This is a faint picture of sovereignty. On board are many passengers. They are completely free to move about as they will. They eat, sleep, play, lounge on the deck, read, talk, altogether as they please, but all the while the great liner is carrying them steadily onward toward a predetermined port. Both freedom and sovereignty are present here and they do not contradict each other. So it is with man’s freedom and God’s sovereignty.
The mighty liner of God’s sovereign design keeps it’s course over the sea of history. God moves undisturbed and unhindered toward the fulfillment of those eternal purposes which He purposed in Christ Jesus before the world began. (A.W. Tozer)
